JOAO SOUSA
João Sousa is a Portuguese photographer and photojournalist born in 1977 and based in Beirut, Lebanon.
João has been involved in photojournalism and documentary photography for several years, travelling and immersing himself in communities to learn and document people’s lives and cultures. His curiosity has taken him to remote and unusual places, living within communities such as nomad families in the Moroccan High Atlas or anarchist artists in squats in the Balkans.
João is a photojournalist for L’Orient Le Jour, and his work has also been published in various outlets such as Financial Times, Al Jazeera, RFI and Der Spiegel. He also regularly collaborates with NGOs such as USAID and Fairtrade.
His work has been exhibited in galleries in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, and he is an active member of photography-related communities, including Lens Culture, DocuMagazine, Lumicroma and Shotkit.
