    The Beirut Center of Photography in collaboration with Art Nub Beirut and master photographer Elie Bekhazi is launching its Introduction to Photography Course between September and October.

    Of great interest to all learners who would like to go beyond the automatic setting on their camera. This program will leave them with the confidence in taking manual control of their cameras and adjusting the shutter speed, ISO and aperture to get the correct exposure for their photographs. It will also provide them with basic editing skills needed to enhance their imagery.

    A three-part format, our course includes theory, application, and review/critique. Divided into five sessions, it is a mixture of indoor and outdoor learning experiences.

    Date and Time:
    Session 1 Monday, September 23, from 6 to 9 pm
    Session 2: Monday, September 30, from 6 to 9 pm
    Session 3: Monday, October 7, from 6 to 9 pm
    Session 4: Monday, October 14, from 6 to 9 pm
    Session 5: Saturday, October 19, from 9 am to 3 pm

    350 USD/person

    Requirements:
    DSLR, mirrorless camera, or any digital camera with manual mode.

    Course Program:
    The sessions are divided as follows:

    1- A practical or technical approach to photography.
    2- Workshops: screenings, and discussions about the diverse genres of photography and how to approach each one.
    3- Assignment: After every session, the participants are given an assignment that allows them to implement what they learn during the course.

    Session 1: Monday, May 6, from 6 to 9 pm

    – Introduction to photography from analog to digital.
    – A look at the types of cameras on the market today: compact, bridge, mirrorless, and DSLR.
    – How a camera works.
    – Understanding ISO, shutter speed, and aperture.
    – How to photograph in manual mode.

    Session 2: Monday, May 13, from 6 to 9 pm

    – The two different kinds of lenses: zoom V/S prime lenses.
    – Understanding the different focal lengths from fisheye to telephoto
    – Understanding camera metering
    – How the autofocus works, single point, multi-points, single focus, continuous focus, and finally manual focus.
    – How our images are saved on our cameras? Difference between Raw and JPG.
    – Different genres of photography

    Session 3: Monday, May 20, from 6 to 9 pm

    – What are the different automatisms in a DSLR: Auto, Program, aperture priority, speed priority, and when to use each one.
    – Understanding depth of field as definition, how does it work on our images.
    – How the depth of field changes depending on our focal length.
    – Portrait photography and the importance of natural light

    Session 4: Monday, May 27, from 6 to 9 pm

    – What is the White balance in photography and how to have color corrected images straight from the camera?
    – Exposure compensation explained in difficult lighting condition.
    – How to compose for: a portrait, a landscape, a tabletop, what are the best focal lengths for each type of photography.
    – Composition rules
    – Landscape/cityscape photography

    Session 5: Photowalk, Saturday, June 1 from 9 am to 3 pm

    – Turn theory into practice by joining the Photowalk and apply everything you learned.
    – Quick editing session and discussion about the images shot by the students.
